Russia is a factory of misery and sadness. Always has been.

Man, ferrying my kid to and from the nursery each day, stuff like this hits real hard, like the other day I saw some Ukrainian TickToker showing how they go down to their block's parking garage as shelter with their baby and toddler. No way to live.

Fuck Russia.

The report says Ukraine is hoping to receive 100 next year - that can't be right can it?  How could so many be delivered in such a short period of time?

Quote"We have started the work to obtain Gripens to Ukraine and expect the future contract to allow us to acquire no less than 100 such jets," Zelenskiy said, speaking through a translator.

Zelenskiy said Ukraine aimed to receive and start using Swedish Gripen jets next year. "For our army, Gripens are a priority. It is about money, about manoeuvres," he told the press conference.

Kristersson said that nothing was decided yet but estimated that production and delivery of the first new aircraft could take three years. There was no decision on shipping older-model Gripens sooner though this had not been ruled out, he added.

It doesn't really specify how many next year...and the Swedes seem more pessimistic.

I saw a comment online somewhere claimed that Sweden has a number (34? IIRC) of an older model of Gripen that are about to be retired. Perhaps Ukraine could take delivery of some of those, while waiting for the newer model planes being produced?

Toni - what you quote is consistent with that. Ukraine hopes to take delivery of some Gripen (unspecified model and year of manufacture) next year, while Sweden expects to deliver the first (newly produced) Gripen in three years.

They bombed a kindergarden in Kharkiv today. A 6-months old died. We don't hate russians enough.

Yeah, my broader understanding is that Sweden is swapping out Gripen Cs for Gripen Es, and I think some of those retired Gripen Cs are going to be sold to Ukraine.  I'm guessing the delay in new Gripens is because Saab doesn't have the bandwidth to build any for Ukraine while still meeting its other delivery commitments.

This is how the Swedish gvt announced it lol

We should probably just move Mark Rutte into the White House at this point...

The US has announced new sanctions targeting Russia's two largest oil companies - Rosneft and Lukoil - in an effort to pressure Moscow to negotiate a peace deal in Ukraine.

"Every time I speak to Vladimir, I have good conversations and then they don't go anywhere. They just don't go anywhere," President Donald Trump said, after a meeting with Nato Secretary-General Mark Rutte to discuss peace negotiations.

Plus side of him being impulsive, sometimes it works for the greater good. Still doesn't outweigh all the bad. Like when his impulsivity works against the greater good.
Being lazy is bad; unless you still get what you want, then it's called "patience".

Small victories...after all, didn't many think we'd have cut off all support/intelligence by this point already?

One of the reasons why I am skeptical of the "Putin has something on the Donald"...if that were the case, wouldn't he have blown off Ukraine entirely by now?  Surely the last several months have shown that the Congressional GOP have no limits when it comes to bending over.  And even if Putin had something (pee-tape, "records" of Russian financial dealings, etc)...in today's age, Trump would just have to say "it's all fake/AI-generated", and it would just dissipate away in the eyes of his supporters.

Scene: A summit in Alaska

Donald: Charming spot.  Inspiring prospects. Let's get peace going.
Vladimir: We can't
Donald: Why not?
Vladimir: We're waiting.
Donald: Waiting for what?
Vladimir: For uh . . Guh . . .Guh. . .
Donald: Godot?
Vladimir: No. G ... NATO
Donald:  Guh NATO?
Vladimir:  No just NATO.  Sorry it's a Cyrillic thing.
Donald: Aren't they here?
Vladimir: Not for sure.
Donald: And if not?
Vladimir: We'll bomb some more tomorrow.
Donald: And then the day after tomorrow?
Vladimir: Possibly
Donald: And so on.
