There's foreign advertising too. Take 2 or 3 countries worth and you have the equivalent of what they'll get in the US.

And yeah, I'm really surprised that they didn't play up the religious angle. I assumed they would have done. It just makes sense.
Ignorance and bigotry. Just like how Mel Gibson had to produce, market, and distribute The Passion of the Christ himself because California execs and their teams did not think it would make any money.

I wouldn't want to produce such a film with Gibson involved.

Doesn't make it any better of a film. Faces of Jesus' death is no less torture porn than a regular faces of death.

It's what the kids like these days.  Sort of like Saw, but in Aramaic.
I do not hate you, nor do I love you, but you are made out of atoms which I can use for something else.

I hadn't watched this show before today.  I hadn't read most of the thread or read about it online and was thinking it was some kind of King David era Rome remake.  Incredibly disappointing. It was horrible.

That is in the past now and we can see that it was a big success (despite being a sucky film). If there's one thing the media is good at its jumping onto things that were succesful and ripping them off.
Christianity is a very well known cash cow these days.

True.  Every movie not made by Hollywood is not made because of their ignorance and bigotry.  And every movie that is made by Hollywood is only made because of their ignorance and bigotry. :tinfoil:

Of course, if one looks at the facts, one discovers that Gibson mostly turned down financial offers because he wanted full creative control.  It wasn't that the Hollywood suits thought he would lose money, but that they should be able to  make changes if investing, to improve their own profits from the film.

But I don't suppose facts have any applicability when one has thrown the bigotry card.
The future is all around us, waiting, in moments of transition, to be born in moments of revelation. No one knows the shape of that future or where it will take us. We know only that it is always born in pain.   -G'Kar

Looks like we're almost at the endgame.  I saw a thing that listed episode 11 as The New King Part I or something to that effect, and that's the next episode.  Looks like Silas has one episode left, two tops before he bites it.  Jack will undoubtedly be joining him.  I wonder if/when David will flee to Gath as the biblical one did.  Some how I don't think there's enough time left.  We shall see...
"Everything that brought you here -- all the things that made you a prisoner of past sins -- they are gone. Forever and for good. So let the past go... and live."

"Somebody, after all, had to make a start. What we wrote and said is also believed by many others. They just don't dare express themselves as we did."

  Damn.  What a shame to see this show end.  I guess I should be happy they aired all of the already finished episodes, but damn... to see the potential this show had and know that it's dead is brutal.
