Are Charlie Chaplin's "Tramp" movies a franchise?

;)

What's next? Rohmer's Moral Tales or Tales of the Four Seasons ? I can live without Rohmer's work, except Triple Agent, but it would still be a loss for the kitsch appeal of Perceval.  :(

Fucking balls!

You really shouldn't get worked up over the industry rags like that;  half the time, it's a leaked pitch to gauge interest.  When it's on the front page of Variety, then it's time to worry.  BIG BUCKS FOR BOFFO BUTCH REBOOT

http://www.showbizspy.com/article/270114/matthew-mcconaughey-and-woody-harrelson-to-remake-butch-cassidy-and-the-sundance-kid.html

Quoteccording to a report, the duo — who worked together on True Detective — are talking about a remake of the Western classic Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.

"There's already a script in development," a source told America's Life & Style magazine.

"Matt wants to turn a whole new generation of moviegoers into fans of the bandits."

The 1969 flick starred Paul Newman as Butch and Robert Redford as Sundance.

"Matt would play Sundance and Woody would play Butch," the insider says, adding that "he hopes Robert wants to direct!"

Butch Cassidy and Sundance kid vs horrors from beyond time and space is probably something Tim would pay to see.
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

Since nearly every stand-alone will be followed by a remake or sequel before too much longer, not a hard choice.

Brings up another point, though.  Most of the time, when a movie comes out, how would you know if it's a stand-alone or the start of a franchise?  Sure, sometimes we know ahead of time that there are going to be follow-ups (Lord of the Rings, f.e.), but lots of time we don't until later.

I already covered that.

One offs.

There's sequels and there's franchises I love. But I couldn't lose Mel Brooks and Hitchcock, or (many) Westerns and Wilder. That would make me sadder.

You'd lose Psycho and The Birds, though.
