Curious.  Ever since Teh Brain told me The Atlantic made him dry heave uncontrollably for a week solid I have stopped trying to flog it.

Well, I expected an almost-Economistesque consistent level of quality and it turned out The Atlantic is all over the place qualitywise. It's a bit like when you take something in your mouth (not the DG way) and expect one taste and you get a completely different taste; it's weird and offputting.

I'm sure there's gems in The Atlantic but I don't feel like wading through stuff like Bernhard-Henry Levy to find them.

Hey dude, I wasn't busting your chops in any way.

BTW, those Levy bits were the absolute worst I've ever read in the Atlantic.

I know, but maybe some readers were unaware of the story. You know how people are.

And I believed BHL was not a French export. :( Is the Atlantic short on well-connected pseudo-intellectuals?

Only aware of it because of Languish. I just read the Economist and catch up on my Tim here for all my outlander news.

I do that too, except the Economist part.

Hey Before, you big square headed doofus, this is for you in particular.

Current Atlantic has an article about the annual prison riot fair (festival? convention?) held in West Virginia.

Article made the rather telling point that whereas the US prison population has exploded, prison riots have essentially stopped.  Author ascribes it to creation of super-maxes and prison rapid response teams.
