If you didnt, then I apologize.  I had assumed you had taken the time to inform yourself before posting.  I won't make that assumption again.

I shouldnt have apologized for assuming he had read something?

I suppose I could have been harder on him

All the current research suggests you are also wrong.

I do not hate you, nor do I love you, but you are made out of atoms which I can use for something else.

Weren't we discussing this a week or so ago?

I've always wondered.

Quote"Baby, you were born this way." As soon as Lady Gaga sang these words on her smash hit Born This Way, they became a rallying cry for gay people around the world, an anthem for sexual minorities facing discrimination. The shiny, catchy song carries an empowering (if simple) message: Don't be ashamed about being gay, or bi, or trans, or anything—that's just how you were born. Gaga later named her anti-bullying charity after the same truism, and two filmmakers borrowed it for their documentary exposing homophobia in Africa. A popular Born This Way blog encourages users to submit reflections on "their innate LGBTQ selves." Need a quick, pithy riposte against anti-gay bigotry? Baby, we were born this way.

Does this apply to pedophiles?  If sexual impulses are inborn, then presumably so is attraction to children.  Yet we arrest and try to 'cure' pedos all the time.
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

I think you'd have a point, if you dropped the "arrest" piece.

They don't try and "cure" pedos.  They try and teach them impulse control.

There is no one that tries to 'cure' pedophilia with medications?  Or should have I had said "treat"?

There's chemical castration. But that isn't a cure nor it is thought as such AFAIK.

That being said, if this turns out to be one way in which homosexuality is caused, I can see an evolutionary net positive for it happening. If after a certain number of men are born who wish to reproduce, having men who can still fight and hunt but who don't wish to procreate can have a positive affect in a limited-size society. In addition, it would create scenarios where there would be a larger gene pool to dip into since one family is only likely to produce a certain number of reproducing males.
The big gay uncle theory. It makes sense to me, I think some of the talk of a gay gene has been about it being carried by women, but active in men - possibly after a number of children or what have you.

I don't think genetics or biology are as rigid and fixed as some people seem to be suggesting. You can have biological sort-of leanings that are then activate by all sorts of environmental factors - for example smoking, or catching a certain virus, or certain stressful situations. I don't see why sexuality couldn't be like that, but I think there's probably more biology than environment involved.

QuoteI've always wondered.
I hate the born this way argument. I far prefer 'is this way'. I understand how it's been helpful but I think it's very defensive and weak, whereas in my view even if sexuality were entirely a choice there should be equal rights for homosexuals.

Not all sexual impulses are equal. Wanting to sleep with a consenting adult is different from wanting to sleep with a child, or a non-consenting adult.
