 It was one of the best movies of 2016.

Damning with faint praise?

The Brain

Finished second season of The Deuce. It's good and all, but not much actually happens.
Women want me. Men want to be with me.

Not at all. There were plenty of good films in 2016.
The medievals were only too right in taking nolo episcopari as the best reason a man could give to others for making him a bishop. Give me a king whose chief interest in life is stamps, railways, or race-horses; and who has the power to sack his Vizier (or whatever you care to call him) if he does not like the cut of his trousers.

Government is an abstract noun meaning the art and process of governing and it should be an offence to write it with a capital G or so as to refer to people.

-J. R. R. Tolkien

Skyscraper. Saw it on the plane and it sucked. Wanted to watch three billboards, but it was after dubbed replacing all the swear words with some deep voiced guy saying things like fudge and mother loving instead. Will wait for the Netflix version. :p
"Af alle latterlige Ting forekommer det mig at være det allerlatterligste at have travlt" - Kierkegaard

"JamenajmenømahrmDÆ!DÆ! Æhvnårvaæhvadlelæh! Hvor er det crazy, det her, mand!" - Uffe Elbæk

FunkMonk

Imagine thinking Arrival was a bad movie
Person. Woman. Man. Camera. TV.

Hardly the most outlandish thing about being Mongers.
To sleep, perchance to dream. But in that sleep of death, what dreams may come?

The Brain

Started on The Borgias. Nice pace and costumes.

He said it was forgettable. I said it was bad  :)

Ready Player One - by the book but better than expected. A lot of the references are really odd. Iron Giant? Buckaroo Bonzai? Not typical geek faire. But cool.

Bird Box - social media causes everyone except psychopaths to want to kill themselves. Yup.
Lots of holes. How are those poor birds alive? But decent.

Lost City of Z - great subject but rather average movie. The explorations - both of the Amazonia and of the character's psyche - are rather skin deep. A cheapened, easy-to-digest, Oscar bait version of Agirre, Wrath of God.

Admiral Yi

I stopped watching The Deuce because Maggy's tits are too flappy.

She stops showing them in season 2.

I like it quite a bit. It's a bit... odd - in the way that it's often funny and even "bright", while not shortchanging how truly awful life as a prostitute can be. Plotting is admittedly pretty loose, which I guess is what Brain finds jarring, but I dig it. The filmmakers are going for a "slice of life" kind of thing as the sex industry grows and becomes, well, and industry in the 1970s and 1980s, so it works for me.

Admiral Yi

Through season one it made it seem like the life of a prostitute was putting up with gimpy schmos putting their dick in you.

You ever banged a puta celery?

Nope.

Only been in a brothel once. For, hum, research.
