Ah yes, this shot is legendary. The entire film is shot like that, it's certainly worth seeing.

There was also this shot from The Cranes Are Flying, a Soviet 1957 war movie: https://twitter.com/pedrojdoc/status/1448234616570134533?s=20
I am, somehow, less interested in the weight and convolutions of Einstein's brain than in the near certainty that people of equal talent have lived and died in cotton fields and sweatshops.

Yeah, there was an influential theoric current in socialist nations that revolutionary films should be revolutionary not just in content, but also in form. And that gave us many gems.

In fact that movie is from the same director (Mikhail Kalatozov) than Soy Cuba.

The Turning. Young woman accepts position as governess for an orphaned little girl, but weird things start to happen. Totally OK. The little girl actress is great.

The medievals were only too right in taking nolo episcopari as the best reason a man could give to others for making him a bishop. Give me a king whose chief interest in life is stamps, railways, or race-horses; and who has the power to sack his Vizier (or whatever you care to call him) if he does not like the cut of his trousers.

Government is an abstract noun meaning the art and process of governing and it should be an offence to write it with a capital G or so as to refer to people.

Motherfuckin' HBO Max has changed the rules so that those of us with the $100/yr plan rather than the $15/mo ad-free plan can't watch Dune. NOWHERE in their pan descriptions did they say that the two plans would eventually have different access:  the $100/yr plan was supposed to be so much cheaper because it had ads and it had to be subscribed and paid annually rather than monthly.  And, of course, my resubscription was in July.

Fuck them.  Fuck them.  Fuck them.  I'd cancel right now, but I've already paid for the year.
The future is all around us, waiting, in moments of transition, to be born in moments of revelation. No one knows the shape of that future or where it will take us. We know only that it is always born in pain.   -G'Kar

It is far better for the truth to tear my flesh to pieces, then for my soul to wander through darkness in eternal damnation.

Jet: So what kind of woman is she? What's Julia like?
Faye: Ordinary. The kind of beautiful, dangerous ordinary that you just can't leave alone.
Jet: I see.
Faye: Like an angel from the underworld. Or a devil from Paradise.

Seen this on another forum. Can't vouch for the veracity.

EDIT: Haven't seen that anywhere else. False claim

Seems crazy that a gun loaded with live ammo ended up on the hands of an actor in a film shoot, that's not supposed to happen, ever.

Unless he was super close when he shot at them and there was a misshap with the blanks, but that's still super rare (and reckless).

Reminds me of how Brandon Lee's career ended.
