Anyone here watch The Man in the High Castle?

If so, was it any good?
Yes.
No.

The first season is ok.  By the second season, it becomes boring.

The Evil characters are the most interesting.  The rebels: meh.

I've only watched a Netflix produced synopsis of seasons 1 & 2.  What was the name of that 80s alien invasion miseries, V?  That's the vibe I got.  In other words semi-schlocky, semi-soap opera.

V?! Outer Space reptilian conspiracy, a classic!  :D
the remake wasn't so bad, but got cancelled during the writer's strike. :(

Nothing beats a pretty chick swallowing a live bird for shock value.  ;)

Watching the Deadwood movie at last. Something I always wanted to ask... does the dialogue feel authentic to yanks? I enjoyed it a lot (heck, one of the high points of the show), but thought it felt rather theatrical. At the same time, I wonder if people really talked like that back then.

Grey Fox

I've watched all seasons of TMitHC, the show suffers from not realizing that Rufus Seewell character is actually the main protagonist until the last ~2 episodes of season 3.

It's worth your time just for the scenery & seeing Hoover being an asshole in that reality too.
Colonel Caliga is Awesome.

It feels awkwardly formal at times, but that's how a lot of letters from the time period sounded.

It sounds exactly like all the other 1870s dialogue I hear on a daily basis.  :P

I was put off by the language when I first watched the show.  But there is some overlap with the way people talk in the remake of True Grit, which worked very well IMO, so I might modify my objection.

Kinda.

Agree with the points that is lacking with focus...non-existant focus really.

And indeed, the evil characters are the best, both in writing and for the actors.  Primarily the main Nazi and two main Japanese antagonists.

The "good guys" are not even "meh".  They're terrible in both writing and actors.

It's entertaining enough for brain-dead viewing...but not if you really value your time.

Finished the Deadwood movie. Yeah, it works well as a wrap-up and gives some closure to several of the most important arcs of the show. The fact that 10 years have passed, but seemingly everybody is still living in the same place, doing the same things they did at the end of season 3 was a bit of a put-off at first, but I rolled with the punches. Amazing that they were able to scoop up so many of the original cast, they were only one zombie Powers Boothe short from pretty much getting everybody.

Second season of Dark is on netflix.  Great mind bender from Germany.

The review I read before seeing it was that it was a series written and performed from the perspective of what I leering 30/40 something would like to see.  Turned it off when it become apparent the review was dead on.  Yi would probably like it though.

Just starting Chernobyl; saw the first episode last night. Very good so far.

Or rather, 'not great, not terrible'.  :D

Toy Story IV

Now I know what you're thinking; "Sure a lot of film series don't really get going until the fourth installment like Deathstalker IV, Beastmaster IV, Rocky IV and American Ninja IV: An American Ninja in Paris, but is the "Toy Story" franchise really in the same league as those fine films?"

;)

Not as poignant as the best Pixar films; but it makes up for it with a lot of laughs (more than any other Pixar film that I can recall.)  Woody is adjusting to his new life with Bonnie, and to not being a favorite toy; but then he goes on a journey of self discovery and in the end we all learn a valuable lesson.

My favorite new toy this time was Canada's greatest daredevil Duke Caboom, voiced by Keanu Reeves (they even manage to work in Keanu's signature line ("Woah."))  The biggest laughs, though, are earned by Ducky and Bunny (Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele).
In Italy, for thirty years under the Borgias, they had warfare, terror, murder and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci and the Renaissance. In Switzerland, they had brotherly love, they had five hundred years of democracy and peace—and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock
