Brazen shared this on Twitter:

What the hell is that even saying?

It's a riff on the "Choose" bit from Trainspotting.

Ok...but what the hell is that riff on the bit from Trainspotting even saying?

It's a joke, no? Just leading up to the last line. I mean the big of Trainspotting doesn't really have a message either:

Well being from a country where millions unironically declare Covid a lie, it is hard to tell.

Yeah - but I mean a bitter, angry, resentful joke. Just it's not really a message thing I suppose, it's not trying to say anything.

The Brain

Last time I heard complaints in Sweden about Soros was in the early 90s when Soros allegedly speculated against the SEK. Sounded to me at the time (and still does) like people trying to blame external actors for fundamental problems with the Swedish economy and currency of the time. My point though is simply that some people may mean other things than donations to NGOs when they speak of actions of billionaires that may "unduly" influence stuff.

Interesting - he definitely made a lot of money by speculating agains the pount on Black Wednesday which forced us out of the ERM in 92. The interesting thing is that this never really comes up in anti-Soros discourse here - it's all about stuff from the US/Hungary.

Is that real?

I'm not finding anything that says that it is. Snopes doesn't have it on their website yet, anyway, and I can't find the original obit.

This one is real, though.

Disagree here. I've seen Black Wednesday brought up a lot. Many seem to think this proves how much of a bad guy he is and how he's working to destroy the UK.
Maybe as you said before its a north/south thing, with our far right pricks being of the BNP racism with a side of socialism variety rather than libertarians.

Which is of course silly. If it wasn't Soros it would had been some other guy(s). The pound was set up terribly, a disaster waiting to happen. I read that Soros understood that clearly, he basically went all in on it, it would had bankrupted him if he was wrong about just how vulnerable the pound was.

The Minsky Moment

Soros was one of many short sellers, albeit the most prominent.  If it was just him, he wouldn't have succeeded.  The BOE bought 27 billion pounds in one day which was much higher than the Quantum Fund short. He did have a very large short though and he did make a lot of money on the trade.

Either way, it wasn't Soros' fault, it was Lamont's for stubbornly pursuing an unsustainable policy.
