There are some real gems there.  Loved the Big Bang reference.

That's the first thing that sprung to mind for me as well. I thought it was on Pasadena, though. Isn't Berkeley quite far for a commute to CalTech? Or is there another Berkeley in LA?  :hmm:

Berkeley is not in LA. It is in the Bay Area in Northern California. So clearly whomever claimed that was in Berkeley has never seen the show.

But California is always held up as some kind of socialist dystopia where the whole state is an extremist commune in San Francisco someplace.

The fact that California is a completely failed state and that Alabama is a paradise is a very common conservative narrative.

Don't forget the ludicrous putting down of New Jersey and other rich, educated New England states.
The medievals were only too right in taking nolo episcopari as the best reason a man could give to others for making him a bishop. Give me a king whose chief interest in life is stamps, railways, or race-horses; and who has the power to sack his Vizier (or whatever you care to call him) if he does not like the cut of his trousers.

Government is an abstract noun meaning the art and process of governing and it should be an offence to write it with a capital G or so as to refer to people.

A per capita comparison is far more illustrative, though. Three trillion people earning $1/month would look great in that chart.

Even better would be the median...

The poorest state is still above the EU average. Bulgaria is holding us back  :(

I thought they made fun of Jersey because it wants to be New York, and it smells funny?
Being lazy is bad; unless you still get what you want, then it's called "patience".

Blame the television industry for that. Jersey Shore, Real Housewives, The Sopranos and a constant stream of abuse from New York based shows...

Or for that matter, the experience of flying into Newark airport, and looking around before scuttling off to Manhattan.  :D

It's a testament to how silly these metrics are.

I'd rather live in the poorest Spanish province (Cádiz) than in the richest US state. -I could see myself going back to Ze Fatherland, or living in a number of EU countries, but the only way I'd live in the States voluntarily would involve a pretty drastic salary increase.

Why? You don't enjoy the glories of Generica and its amazing chain stores and restaurants?
